Dunham Volunteer firefighters responded to car fire near Veto Lake around midnight Friday night.
Saturday the owner of the car was in police custody for allegedly setting the fire.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office tracked down Teddy Church at his Lake Road home in Belpre.
Officers say Church initially stated he was home all evening and didn't know where his car was.
Investigators say Church later admitted that he was driving the car when it caught fire, then he decided to walk home, make a sandwich, and go to bed without calling the fire department.
"Upon speaking with the wife who was not on the scene, they learned that several of the items that were sitting on the front porch had actually been in the vehicle prior to her leaving and then in turn led them to pressure the subject more and with the evidence they found in his statements they placed him under arrest for arson," said Sgt. Randy Stackpole, Washington Co. Sheriff's Office.
Church is in jail without bond awaiting a court appearance on Monday.
