Ray, 21" is a great amount for this area, Fairbanks Alaska, tends to have more snow just because its ALASKA, you are farther north, where it is colder year round, and also closer to the sea. We are one of the southern most states of the great northeast, so weird weather is common, for us 6 inches of snow is too much for some. A 20 inch snow fall for us is great news, and should be respected as that.

Hey Kirk, You got it right this time about this being the storm of the century,a lot of people do not realize how massive in size this storm was , hundreds of miles across stretching way out in the Atlantic ocean. Does WTAP post the monthly weather averages at the end of each month ? They use to put it in the Parkersburg news years ago but I have not seen it anywhere since. Thanks

i was working at wtap. i picked-up katrina cravy at the wood county airport. she was interviewing for a job. i asked her if she had ever seen snow since she was from la. she said no, i said maybe this weekend. she was hired because she was snowed in at the blennerhassett anyway and was willing to work. we had a great team! the hotel was nice enough to let us eat there for lunch and dinner. i'll never forget that. the snow piles didn't melt until june. good job getting the archive video. come on springtime!

High winds whipped the snow up into drifts and mounds so that it appeared much greater in some areas. The 21" figure comes from the "official observation" recorded by the National Weather Service for Parkersburg after the four day storm had passed. You MAY have seen local amounts that were greater! Anyone got any photos?

I remember it well. March 13 was my birthday and my twin brother came down from northern Ohio for the weekend with his 2 year old twin girls. Ended up being stranded for 5 days. With 9 people in the house all but 2 ended up with the flu. With the blowing snow we could not even get out of the house unless someone came with a shovel to clear the doorway.

The wind made it seem like a lot more than 21"s of snow. I remember the snow up to my windows on one side of the house in front and perfectly level with my porch floor on the other (when I opened the door to let the dog out, he took off and 'vanished' lol).

Seeing that footage really brought back memories. I actually thought we got more than 21 inches of snow. Whatever we got, it was incredible! Nice job!
