One of the top five targets for the Major Crimes Task Force is behind bars Saturday without bond. Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said agents have been after this man since 2005.
The Washington County Sheriff's Department arrested three out-of-town men early Saturday morning when they found 86 bags of crack cocaine packaged for resale, 116 Xanax pills, 19 Ectstasy pills and six grams of marijuana.
Later Saturday night officers believe they found another piece to the puzzle.
"We were able to last night to obtain information for a search warrant at this 1125 1/2 Greene Street (in Marietta) executed the warrant and we found remnants of the clandestine lab," said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Officers said they found a bag of about 53 grams of crack cocaine worth between $5,000 and $10,000 along with digital scales, glass beakers, pans, and knives they believe were used to make the drug.
"We're able to tie that together and a uniformed member of the Marietta Police Department went to the Four Seasons Bar and at that time he arrested Mr. Simpson," Sheriff Mincks said.
Justin Simpson of Canal Winchester, OH faces felony possession and manufacturing crack cocaine charges.
Sheriff Larry Mincks said the 20-year-old could be facing additional charges.
"From intelligence information and our information we have been developing we knew that he was probably the primary source of a lot of the crack cocaine or the powder cocaine coming into Marietta," said Sheriff Mincks.
The powder cocaine is refined into the more potent, crack cocaine, through several cooking processes at mobile transient locations.
"I'm sure that he has used different locations in the city and in Parkersburg to you know cook this crack cocaine. This is mostly from intelligence information but it's information that we are pursuing," Sheriff Mincks said.
So the investigation continues and Sheriff Mincks expects additional arrests.
He and two of the men arrested Saturday, Trevor Johnson and Derron Felder, are set to be arraigned in Marietta Municipal court Monday.
Residents in the neighborhood helped identify the apartment where officers found the lab and now officers need your help.
