The garage of a Little Hocking home has been heavily damaged...after a late afternoon fire Thursday.
Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Chevalier says the fire in the home on Mill Branch road broke out after homeowner Lynn Smith had been working in the garage.
Chevalier says it started in a trash can, possibly by a cigarette.
"The homeowner attempted to put the fire out," Chevalier says. "They did call 911 for help. The fire had a little head start because they were in the house when it actually started."
While several family members were at home at the time, no one was injured in the fire.
The fire was mostly confined to the garage, but the home did have some exterior damage.
The Dunham Township and Belpre fire departments also responded to the fire.
