Gallipolis, Ohio (AP) -- The Ohio Valley Publishing Co. has dropped Monday editions of two daily newspapers in Ohio and one in West Virginia.
The change was effective Monday at the Gallipolis Daily Tribune, the (Pomeroy-Middleport) Daily Sentinel and the Point Pleasant (WV) Register.
Other newspapers in the country also have dropped publication days in the tough economy.
Ohio Valley Publishing says it made the move to reduce costs while avoiding layoffs, furloughs or other cuts.
The Ohio papers will continue publishing Tuesday through Friday and a combined Sunday edition.
The register will publish Tuesday through Saturday.
The Daily Tribune has a circulation of about 4,300, and the Daily Sentinel, about 3,200, with Sunday circulation at 8,700.
The register has a circulation of about 3,900.
