West Virginia family court judges attend two conferences each year, and this year's spring meetings are being held in Parkersburg.

West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Brent Benjamin got things started by speaking to the dozens of family court judges from across the state.

Judge Darren Tallman of the fourth judicial district, which covers Wood and Pleasants counties, says family courts are seeing more and more cases with people losing jobs.

Judge Tallman also says many of these judges are experiencing these cases for the first time.

"We have 21 new judges, and it's nice to see now those new judges that took office in January. It's gonna be interesting to see how they've reacted to their first four months in office," Judge Tallman said.

The conference will last two days, and it's all to educate the judges about new laws while refreshing on some older ones.
