It has been talked about for years- expanding all of West Virginia Route 2 to four lanes. It still hasn't happened but the group of people trying to bring it to the forefront of state leaders' minds want your help.
West Virginia State Senator Donna Boley says in the early nineties the Pleasants County Commission appointed two directors from ten counties between Wood County, Hancock County and Monangalia County to form the WV Route 2 and Interstate 68 Authority.
They're still working to get funding to widen the road.
"We just feel that if we had better roads it would attract more businesses and number two we've had deaths from falling rocks and trees along West Virginia Route 2," said Boley.
State Senator Boley says a few years ago the state bought back the right of way near the Route 2 bridge over Interstate 77 but the project has been pushed back.
Now she says a statewide group of officials in Charleston are preparing a list of projects for the next six years to recommend to the governor.
"We've been told by Congressman Mollohan that for us to get funds we have to be on a list."
But she says it's also up to the people who live in the area to speak up.
"We've got to make our voices heard and a good way to do that is through the Route 2 Authority."
The Authority's next meeting is Monday night at 6 p.m. at the Pleasants County Senior Center on Second Street in St. Marys.
The public is invited to attend. Boley says WV Department of Transportation officials are expected to be there.
