I am one of the persons who got to walk down the aisle and it was the best feeling in the world. My son was in front of me getting his diploma too. We worked very hard to achieve this and yes at times I was thinking about giving up. But thank God for people like Judy, Melissa, Jeannie and Maria. Without them none of this would have been possible for me. But most of the thanks should go to my wife and daughter for their love and support. And also my friend Jack, who made class interesting and fun. So I guess I am saying thanks to the Wood County School System and the Adult Basic Education Program for all you have done for me and my family. This is one program that I hope will never be taken away from the general public. Because I feel that it is necessary for people like me who aren't able to finish high school so that they too can have a second chance at following their dreams. I am 43 years old and it's never too late to learn. Thank you to all. James

In Wood Co. you can take the GED test free now if you are willing to take a practice test at an Adult Basic Education Center. The test takes about 3-4 hours depending on the student and the official practice test is also free. Congratulations to all the GED grads!

I applaud those that have gotten their GED. However I do not support the Adult Basic Education nor the Workforce for West Virginia in this help because I personally jumped through hoops doing everything that they asked for me in return for a voucher for the cost of the GED test. Hilariously over a term of less then 6 weeks the requirements kept changing until they were plum out of those certificates. I finally borrowed the money to get my test paid for and passed it the very first time I took it. What it amounts to was I was looking for a hand up not a hand out but like many individuals that need it, I couldn't get it because I learned right from wrong and also wasn't a teen mother cashing a check every month from Uncle Sam. Again congrats to the graduates and may you have a blessed future. Sorry to those that have had the same struggle I had or that will approach it in the future! And yes back then I did not have 50 dollars laying around! Some think its so little of an amount, its not
