More than 50 people completed the GED exam this year in Wood County and one of them is currently in training with the Army National Guard.
Friends and family members filled this room at West Virginia University at Parkersburg to see their loved ones receive the equivalent to their high school diploma.
Lajuana Cisneros stood in for her 41-year-old husband, Robert, who graduated but couldn't be there because he's in training with the Army National Guard.
Cisneros says the diploma means "a better future. Our kids are teenagers and just a better future for all of us. We're real proud of him."
The assistant director of the Wood County Technical Center says the adult education program works with several agencies to help adults get their high school diplomas.
