Enjoying the sun too much and not being safe is what one medical professional witnesses this time of year.
Michael Dickerson Md. and EMS Medical Director of Wirt County said, "We do see more emergency visits in the start of summer then we do later in the summer."
Educating the public on safety now is what Dickerson wants to get across.
"You can divide summer safety issues right now in June into two separate areas, one is recreational safety and the other is kind of occupational or work safety,"said Dickerson.
Dickerson said recreational safety is all to do with children.
"If kids are going to be outdoors, put some sunscreen on them and watch what they are doing."
Dickerson said the three activities he sees that kids get hurt with the most this time of year are playing with three wheeled motorcycles, lawn darts, and trampolines.
Work safety is more for adults to make sure they have the proper equipment.
"We are working in the yard, mowing the grass, running the weed-eater. When you're doing that you really want to think how you're going to get hurt. We forget to wear ear protection and eye protection, "said Dickerson.
Protecting your head is the most important Dickerson said, for children and adults.
Dickerson also said that it is important to stay well hydrated during the summer months.
