i still have this family in my prayers but i have to get on here and disagree with ad...just because there was alcohol on the boat doesnt mean the driver was drunk nor does it mean anyone was drunk. there is nothing wrong with people sitting back and enjoying a cold beer just so they wasnt the one driving the boat. we all have made mistakes in the past we all think it cant happen to us just 1 yr ago i was on a boat and didnt have my life jacket on i knew where it was but sometimes we just dont think ahead of time and i know we all have been there..THIS FAMILY HAS ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH SO PLEASE BE KIND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU SHOULDA COULDA BUT DIDNT..SO PLEASE DONT SOUND SO RUDE TO THEM ...DONT YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT A TRAGEDY THIS IS TO THIS FAMILY...I AGREE THAT THE FIRE DEPT AND ALL THE EMERGENCY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING A GOOD JOB...BUT GIVE THIS FAMILY A BREAK AND PRAY TO GOD FOR THEM....

why people on boats do not wear life jackets is utterly amazing to me. Year after year there is always an incident like this one. Seat Belts are mandatory, Life Jackets should be as well. People think they know best and they don't. Any decision to be on a boat or out on the water without a life jacket is utter stupidity. People complain about no police being on the river but yet these same people take beer and alcoholic beverages out on these boats. Stupid. Stupid decisions cost lives. The could have 10-20 police boats out there and people would still have alcohol on their boat. Why do people think boating and alcohol mix - It doesn't. I feel sorry for the families but the people on the boat made the choice not to wear a life jacket and also made the choice to have alcohol on the boat. Senseless tragedy. Wake up boaters !!!

My heart and prayers go out to the whole family!I have known most of the family for a while now and I have to say that they are one of a kind and you dont find people like that very often. They would all somehow go out of thier way to do anything for you and have always been very outgoing too. If there is anything that I can do to help anyone dont hesitae to call. We will miss Jeremy and Dave, they will never be forgotten. I am so very sorry that this happened to all of you, but we will be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers. Beth

Someone who knows the family, so you're trying to tell me that the jetskiers that were doing tricks, racing each other, and showing off were trying to rise Jeremy from the bottom? I never heard of that before! Please don't come at me.

I dont know any of the people on the boat but, I do want you to know that my daughter whom is 11yrs old has said many prayers and we as a family have put you on our prayer list.God works in mysterious ways and takes the best and please dont get me wrong it doesnt take the pain away but, with time, support, and looking into his baby's eyes it will get easier.Try to remember the good times, laughter, love that you have shared and talk to him.my brother just passed and I will remember his smile, face for the rest of my life.just because you cant see something DOES NOT mean its not there.I talk 2 him everyday.I am sorry for your loss of a son and his father but, try to remember god takes the best and we are all his children and can be called home at any given time. There are so many prayers and support 4 you and your family. My family wishes you peace and love.to the mother of his child-be strong and raise him letting him know what a strong, great father he has & I am praying 4 you.Be strong.

For all the people out there who are asking how to help, walk the shore lines. The searchers have to make sure they dont miss anything in the area. If searchers haven't made it to your area yet, look for him along the shore. He needs all the help anyone can give.

As a professional ocean lifeguard, professional rescuer, diver, and fellow boater it breaks my heart to hear of yet another senseless tragedy. On any given day weak or non-swimmers should always wear their life jackets. On a day like recent, where the river is extremely choppy, filled with debris, currents are swift, and the winds are blowing, extra safety precautions should be taken. My heart is filled with sorrow for this family and their loss. I have been on too many recovery missions and it is not easy for the family or the team that finds the victim. My deepest condolences! You cannot go back in time and change the events, but maybe a person's life will be saved because they use better water safety practices. A big thank you to everyone risking their lives to recover the body of this young man...the river current is strong and difficult to maneuver safely.

To someone who knows the family. You mean they are not searching down the river by now?? Are they really just staying by the island? I understand it is important to stay there because he could be stuck there, but do they not think he may be down river by now? Im not trying to critise Im just wondering. My heart goes out to this family, I could not imagine what they are going through right now. I hope and pray they find him soon, this waiting has to be extremely hard on them.

SBH--Until you know exactly whats going on with the search please keep your comments to yourself. They had parts of river closed for hours while searching then decided they wanted boats going through the area to help rise Jeremy from the bottom if he were to be stuck on something! My family has been out on boats searching and nothing has come up yet. I don't understand why there only searching the island when it's been days and the river is moving....

My thoughts and prayers are with Jeremy's family and the rest of the people involved in this accident. As a lifer on the river I hope this tragedy will bring to light some serious issues that face all boaters. This is the 3rd time that people I personally know have been killed in a boating accident.

Taking into consideration of the size of our river, time of day, conditions of the water, 13 minutes is a remarkable time to reach the accident. I think our rescue teams have done a remarkable job. The loss of 2 lives is so very sad and hard to accept, but I'm sure if the rescue didn't make it in record time, it could have been a lot worse. According to a relative that I talked with on Sunday at Civitan Park, the boaters were all drunk. I hope other boaters can learn from this terrible accident. God Bless the family and friends.

To the jetskiers and boaters that were on the river today at the belpre park ripping through there like nothing's wrong are RUDE! Plus why would you want to make it harder for the searchers by disturbing the water more? Maybe i'm being too sensitive here but it actually angered me seeing that. I Hope Jeremy gets found soon!

this is a horrible accident, but my question is what happened? boats just dont capsize for no reason? and as for the person who posted a 13 minute response time is slow, first of all ppd keeps a boat in, and the water was horrible yestrerday, we didnt even put in because of it, the rescuers cant risk their own lives..i will be praying for this family and boater!

I feel horrible for the families involved in this accident. As a boater, you, the captain of the boat, has to be responsible and know his vessels limits. I think it is wrong to be against the dnr or law enforcement. From the story it sounds like they did a great job. Saying that more dnr boats need to be out is coming from a non boater anybody out there on a regular basis nows that the dnr and police do a terrific job of letting boaters have fun and yet watching out for there safety.

Boating accidents are so tragic and preventable. I grew up on and around boats, and today was NOT a good day to be out on the river. Please remember that when the water is muddy and choppy, you can't see logs and other debris that may be floating just under the surface. I was near the scene, and all of the responders were doing everything they could, and they should be commended.

Me and my family was on the boat docks when this happenned, my husband called 911 and we flagged down the first passing boat to assist them. This was horrible!I am praying for the family, and hoping for a miracle. I can say from the time we called 911 it was 13 minutes for anyone to show up, besides a police officer who waited for the fire dept to come. I think they need to keep boats in the river for a faster response. I will never forget how everyone was screaming for help, and we were helpless on the other side of the river. God be with the family!

First, I hope all are ok and I pray for them and the families. Secondly, law enforcement have been out on the river patrolling. WV DNR have had all of their boats out on patrol every weekend and one during the week. PPD has their boat out on the weekends as well as OHDNR. Life Jackets save lives, too, but only when people wear them. WVDNR have made many BUI arrests since Memorial Day weekend on the river and continue to do so, too. I am not implying that anyone on the boat were impaired I just want to say that alcohol does not go with boating and beer/alcoholic drinks have no business on a boat. Police have been using their boats and have been doing a great job ensuring boaters comply with water laws. Thoughts and prayers to the families and the people on the boat.

bill i was on the boat when it happend get yor story straight before you make comments like that someday it might happen to you
I'm sorry for the families loss but thankful they have found Jeremy. I spent about 15 hours on the river with my fire dept. searching and I want to thank those we had to stop while we had a portion of the river closed. Those we spoke to were very polite and only concerned that everyone was ok. Also, thanks to the woman who brought food and cold drinks to us while we were searching on Sunday. It was really needed, and greatly appreciated. There is a lot that isn't understood unless you have done these types of searches before. Some question why we focused in the immediate area but there were good reasons to. It isn't possible for all volunteer departments to keep a boat on the river at all times. Especially when they main station is several miles from the river. Please don't forget we often have to fight traffic coming from our homes to get to the station to get the appratus we need for the call we are needed on. Our thoughts are with the family and friends. Please stay safe out there.
Just to let everyone know...Jeremy has been found. Im not at liberty to discuss anything more about it...but he HAS been found. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers through this situation. JKG
Thanks to everyone who helped search for Jeremy. He was found near a campground in HockingPort earlier today and transported to Athens County...Rest In Peace Jeremy
To all u ppl talking down on these ppl, you really need to stop. It is uncalled for and is upsetting their family and friends. I couldv'e happened to anyone so please keep your comments to yourself! We love all of you that are still looking for Jeremy and I keep praying they find him!
I AM SO SORRY FOR YOU GUYS, THIS IS A VERY SAD SITUATION. I HAVE KNOWN THIS FAMILY FOR A LITTLE WHILE, AND THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE. SCOTTY I LOVE YOU, HANG IN THERE OK, IF YOU NEED ANYTHING JUST LET US KNOW. SCOTT AND JEREMY HELPED ME ON MANY DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WITH MY CAR, THIS IS SO SAD ABOUT HIM. YOU GUYS ARE IM MY PRAYERS EVERYDAY. I DO WANT TO SHARE ONE THING WITH THE FAMILY, IF IT IS TRULEY JEREMY'S TURN TO GO THEN HE WILL GO, BUT IF ITS NOT THEN GOD WILL BRING HIM BACK TO YOU. JUST TRY AND REMEMBER THE LORD IS IN CONTROL AND HE WILL DO WHAT IS BEST. KEEP PRAYING AND DONT STOP, I KNOW I WONT. KAREN STAY STRONG, SCOTTY STAY STRONG AND DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID, WE STILL LOVE YOU, AND TO TIFFANY I DONT KNOW YOU THAT WELL BUT YOU STAY STRONG TOO, YOUR BABY NEEDS YOU, AND I THINK JEREMY WOULD WANT THAT FOR YOU TOO. I HOPE YOU GUYS GET CLOSURE SOON I CANT EVEN IMAGINE WHAT YOU MUST BE GOING THROUGH. I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR YOU AND JEREMY UNTIL HE IS FOUND. GOD BLESS AND STAY STRONG.
Dear Amazed- All I wanted to clear up was that the driver was not the one drinking the alcohol that was found on the boat, there was no "collision" , no confusion as to how many were on the boat, and details of what happened were never "sketchy". People in this town have a way of talking trash when they have no clue of the truth. I was just clearing up a few points that the news and newspaper can't seem to get straight.
All of my thoughs and prayes are still on jeremy midcap that is still not been found, it has been 3 days now. and going down there today seeing the family almost made me cry cuz it is so sad. but hopefuly they find jeremy today or tommrow.. and scottie every thing is going to be ok sometime we are going to find him and he will never be forgoton! nither will dave. R.I.P Jeremy and Dave Midcap!!
To the family of Dave and Jeremy Midcap, I hope tht you find Jeremy and I hope that Dave is resting n Peace. I know that it sure wouldv'e been nice too see my father this fathers day but hes been gone now 3 yrs and I know what a tragady this has became. After being their with friends and family today at the civitan park, still on the search for Jeremy all I could do is cry and prey that they find him. R.I.P Dave and Jeremy, we all love you and miss you! My heart goes out to the family...I am s very sorry! Love beth
SBH~ yes by having the boats and jet skis in the water it creates a resistance in the water that would stir up anything on the bottom that might be caught. To nunyabizniss~ The driver might have been responsible in not drinking, but if you think about it, it really doesn't matter. The driver may not have caused the accident, but it still happened. It's not like being in a car, when you are thrown from a boat in the middle of the river, you need all your wits about you to be able to swim...that's the point with not drinking and boating...not so much the driver, but self. One needs to have themselves in a state of mind to rescue themselves if need be. Once a car hits a tree, that's it, it's stopped..no need to try to rescue self...but once the boat was flipped you have to deal with the water around you that is constantly moving. Make sense? Don't be so hard on people. Everyone takes tragic happenings their own way. Some get angered, others cry.
Some of you should be ashamed! Who cares what happened or who was drinking. Two people are now gone and the 5 who survived will live with this the rest of there lives. I didn't know Jeremy well and never knew his family until this happened but have been there with them since Saturday helping in whatever way possible....Tiffany I know this is hard on you now but in time you will recover. You two have a beautiful baby and she will need you more than ever. If you need anything please let me or your dad know
i went to school with jeremy and he was really nice and would do anything for u he will be missed
To anyone who can help....Family is looking for people with boats who are willing to search the river, dotations are being taking at Wes Banko ($2,400 needed to cover funeral cost for both people involved in accident), and any drinks & snacks can be takin to loading docks in Belpre...Thank you all for the prayers
In every bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hiden pomise: butterflies will soon be free! in the cold and snow of winter theres a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something god alone can see. theres a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; theres a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.from the past will come the futue;what it holds,a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something god alone can see. in our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity. in our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unreavled until its season, something god alone can see. REST IN PEACE JEREMY AND DAVE MIDCAP!
THE DRIVER OF THE BOAT WAS NOT DRINKING, and submitted a blood test on the spot to prove it. Just because there was alcohol onboard, doesn't mean it was the driver's. There were plenty of life jackets onboard, and the boat was NOT overloaded. You people need to know the facts, and get your story straight....and while you're out doing that... get yourself a life too and leave these people to grieve.
