A fatality, a serious injury and a DUI charge are the results of an accident in Parkersburg Monday night.
Police say incidents where alcohol and death are involved are some of the toughest to respond to.
"It's a shame that we have to have eye openers such as this," Parkersburg Police Chief Gerald Board said.
The driver, 19-year-old Christopher Browning, has been charged with one count of DUI causing death. And that death, was one of his passengers, 19-year-old Nathanial Day. Police say his other passenger, 20-year-old Charles Jackson, was seriously injured.
"It's the unthinkable. The family member left the house and everything was fine, and then a few hours later you have to deliver a message such as this, and it's just terrible," Chief Board said.
A terrible way to learn that drinking and driving really can have consequences. And Chief Board says it all goes back to the old saying you've heard for years.
"Just plain and simple, do not drink and drive. It just does not mix. I know everybody feels like 'oh well, I can have a drink or two and it's not gonna affect me.' well it's crazy, it will affect you, you just don't realize it," Chief Board said.
Christopher Browning, the driver in the accident, is currently free on a $20,000 bond.
