Suspect Arrested for Smuggling 60 Balloons of Heroin

The Washington County Sheriff and Marietta Police officers say they've stopped a major supplier of heroin in the area.
Sheriff Larry Mincks says Wednesday night his officers and Marietta police stopped a 28-year-old resident for a traffic violation.
Stacy Thompson of Marietta was behind bars Thusday afternoon on a $15,000 dollar bond.
Thompson is charged with possessing heroin.
Officers say they have been monitoring Thompson and pulled her over on the 200 block of Pike Street Wednesday night.
A canine indicated the presence of drugs, paraphernailia in a purse, and after questioning she admitted to hiding 40 balloons of heroin in a body cavity according to the sheriff's office.
Once in prison officers say 60 balloons were found.
"This is evidence of how much of an issue this is right now," said Lt. Pat Gherke, Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Mincks says they have intelligence information Thompson has been making multiple trips to Columbus to buy heroin and then bringing it back here to sell to support her addiction. He says dealers can buy a balloon of heroin for $10 in Columbus and then sell it for $50 in Marietta because of the demand.

Officials say they stopped 29-year-old Stacy Thompson of Marietta for a traffic violation just before 9:30 Wednesday night.
When officials questioned Thompson they say she admitted to having sixty balloons of heroin concealed in a body cavity. Thompson is facing a felony charge of possession of heroin.
She is behind bars without bond pending her initial appearance in court.
The arrest was a joint effort by the Washington County sheriff's Department, Marietta Police and Major Crimes Task Force.
