The fourth of July means fun, fireworks, and of course good food, but for those of you preparing backyard barbecues, there are some safety tips to keep in mind.

Home Depot General Manager Art Hall says when it comes to grilling, the most important thing is to simply set aside enough time.

He says be sure to check connectors, and make sure there aren't any gas leaks.

He also says to not leave the grill unattended.

"The entire time that you're cooking you should be there, because if you get a grease fire that is the worse thing to happen, and if you're not there you'll burn your house down," Hall said.

Hall says if you do experience a grease fire, shut the grill lid, and if that doesn't work use a fire extinguisher.

However, he says do not try to put the fire out with water.
