On this day 233 years ago the Second Continental Congress unanimously approved the Declaration of Independence and Saturday many residents commemorated the holiday.
Crowds lined the streets of Marietta Saturday for the annual parade and people were gathering under picnic shelters to grill out at Mountwood Park.
Some said the day is all about spending time with family meanwhile others said it's all about remembering the birth of the United States of America.
Matthew Anderson, a Marietta resident, said "Especially at this time in our country it's a time to think about what we have and be thankful for what people have done to create freedom in this country."
"Every Fourth of July we enjoy family and friends," said Debbie Barnett, a Washington County resident.
Parkersburg resident Jason Cottrille said "Togetherness and to celebrate the birth of the United States and patriotism."
