This Fourth of July weekend, AAA said that Americans traveling decreased 2 percent from last year, and a local rest stop is seeing the same.
The Williamstown Welcome Center is a resting stop for many travelers on Interstate 77.
The Welcome Center Supervisor, Donna Briggs said this Fourth of July weekend was slow on Saturday, but Friday and Sunday were record breaking days.
"I think everyone had the plans for the day (Sunday)," said Briggs.
According to Briggs there were over 1,000 travelers less this year compared to last year's Fourth of July weekend.
Briggs said that the people that do stop don't seem to mind the expense.
"They're not real concerned about gas this year such as they were last year, that's not holding them back at all. The economy I think they worry about, but they go, they still go."
Over the holiday weekend law enforcement is out and many departments are in a program called CARE, which basically means all are working together for four basic components.
Sergeant G.L.Brown with the West Virgina State Police said, "basically we go out and we strive to enforce seat belts violations, speeding, DUI enforcement, try to prevent vehicle crashes by being out and visible."
According to Brown they have responded by giving out over thirty speeding tickets and one DUI citation.
The Ohio State Highway patrol post in Marietta reports no fatal accidents, six investigated crashes, 506 traffic stops, and eight OVI arrests through Thursday to Sunday.
