One man has died and another was in the hospital earlier Sunday evening after a Saturday afternoon boating accident on the Ohio River.

West Virginia D.N.R. Sergeant Clyde Armstead said Guy Unger, Jr. of Logan, Ohio died after the accident.

Wood County Coroner Mike St. Clair said Unger was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's hospital, where he was transported after the late afternoon accident.

Four men were taken to several hospitals Saturday after the accident shortly before 5 p.m. on the Ohio, about half a mile north of Hockingport in Athens County.

Sergeant Armstead said 25-year-old Seth Cramer of Rockbridge, Ohio was taken by helicopter to Cabell-Huntington Hospital Saturday and was in serious condition Sunday evening.

The two other men, Cramer's cousin 27-year-old Shawn Cramer of Logan, and Adam Lehmans have been treated and released from area hospitals, according to officials.

DNR officers said it appears the four men were in a boat that was driving very fast on the river and ended up crashing into a docked house boat.

Sergeant Armstead said DNR officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.

A Saturday afternoon boating accident on the Ohio River has left one man dead.

Wood County Coroner Mike St. Clair has identified the victim as Guy W. Unger, 24, of Logan, Ohio.

St. Clair said Unger was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, where he was transported after the late afternoon accident.

West Virginia DNR officials told WTAP's Leslie Barrett four men were taken to several hospitals Saturday after the accident shortly before 5 P.M. on the Ohio, about half a mile north of Hockingport in Athens County.

Corporal Chris McKnight said officers were called out to a crash involving two boats on the Ohio Side of the river in Hockingport at about 5 p.m.

It happened close to the 700 block of State Route 124. Nearby residents say one boat was docked and the other hit it.

Corporal Chris McKnight, of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, said four men were taken to several hospitals. The names and conditions of the other three victims have not been released.

Corporal McKnight said there were life jackets on the boat but he could not say whether or not the people on the boat were wearing them. Het has some advice for boaters out on the water this weekend.

"Through the weekend just make sure everybody's got life jackets on board like I said take it slow. Moderate your speed and that kind of stuff," said Corporal McKnight.

The docked boat was leaking fuel and Corporal McKnight said authorities with the West Virginia Deparment of Environmental Protection were on their way to contain it.

Sergeant Clyde Armstead said DNR officers are investigating the cause of the accident.

Saturday's accident is the third fatal boating accident in our area since springtime.

On April 25th, two people died when a boat with four on board capsized in Belleville.

And in late June, a father and son died when their boat took on water and sank off the shore of Blennerhassett Island. The son's body was found in the Hockingport area several days later.
