Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Washington County

Officials say neither rider was wearing a helmet Sunday in a motorcycle crash that left a Waterford woman dead.

The accident happened at 1:35 Sunday afternoon on Cats Creek Road just outside of Lowell.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials say 49-year-old Harold Copen misjudged a curve and drove his motorcycle off the roadway.

Copen and his passenger, 47-year-old Anna Copen, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Mrs. Copen was seriously injured and taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.

A motorcycle crash in Washington County has left one person dead.

The accident happened around 2 pm Sunday afternoon on State Route 60 just north of Lowell.

A dispatcher with the Marietta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said there were two people on the motorcycle at the time of the crash and one person was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital where they later died.

No names are being released at this time, and no word yet if the driver or the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
