Natasha Anderson of Parkersburg is always a few steps behind her son Luke, and she said that the fear of losing sight of him is a real one.
"Especially now a days, it's a big fear. I constantly have to keep an eye on him at all times, " said Anderson.
Keeping a watchful eye is something many parents find themselves doing, and Anderson said that it's something that is becoming more of a reality.
Deputy B.A. Pickens with the Wood County Sheriff's Office has advice if you loose sight of your child, "Immediately dial 911 valuable seconds count."
Deputy Pickens said there are things you can do in your home to prevent your child from wandering off, like placing a baby monitor in the room.
"Another thing is to put a dead bolt on your door, but put it high enough where the child can't reach it," said Pickens.
Also Pickens said to remember what your child is wearing so if they do go missing you can give an accurate description.
