Vienna police officers have a new weapon in their arsenal.
The department Wednesday demonstrated its tazers...which are a departure from the "stun gun"-type tazers familiar to most of us.
The gun-like weapons...already in use by Parkersburg City Police...are designed to make it more difficult for a suspect to fight with a police officer.
"The old tazers, or stun guns, used to give you a shock," says officer Scott Hughes, who demonstrated the weapon to his fellow officers. "This gives you a shock while it incapacitates your body. They reccommend if you fire it, you let it run a full five seconds before you shut it off."
The new tazers can strike a target from several feet away.
