A storage facility fire Thursday was in the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department's jurisdiction but it is also just a few blocks away from the Parkersburg city line.
Lubeck Volunteer Fire Chief Mark Stewart said seven volunteer fire departments responded because each one has its own specialty service.
Automatically three volunteer fire departments are dispatched to respond to that area.
The storage units are nearly two miles away from the Parkersburg Fire station on Blizzard Drive.
Since the property is in the county limits, this is part of the Lubeck Fire Department's area and Washington Bottom and Blennerhassett Volunteer Fire Departments are also automatically called to help.
As the officer in charge, Chief Stewart, said he did not ask Parkersburg to respond because it was not a life-threatening situation.
"It's up to the responding unit of his territory, the OIC, that's responding to call for mutual aid and he can call for mutual aid at any time he wants to," said Chief Chichester.
Chief Chichester said their main priority is life safety and then property conservation.
Even though the city has its lines, Chief Chichester said there is a mutual agreement with the city that if one of the volunteer fire departments needs their help they will respond.
Again in order to respond, the commanding officer has to request the help.
