A proposed armory project for Fort Boreman Hill...which was discussed and put aside almost a year ago...is back at the talking stage again.
The National Guard could get money from a just-approved congressional appropriations bill to buy land for the new armory.
The Wood County Development Authority is seeking participation by the county commission...to help the city of Parkersburg fund seating and other additions which would develop the armory into an convention and events center.
"That can spark a tax base that we don't have to go to the taxpayers' pockets for," said Mayor Bob Newell, who attended the commission meeting. "That's my only interest in it."
The authority would also like to use close to 30 available acres near the armory site for future economic development.
But its director, Keith Burdette adds that no commercial interests have committed to that location.
