A Parkersburg man is behind bars after police say he threatened to blow up a Vienna bank.
Vienna Police say at around 2:15 p.m. John Canavan made threats to the bank clerk at the People's Bank inside the Vienna Walmart also that he was going to blow the place up.
Initial reports indicated Canavan had a gun but when officers arrived police found he was unarmed.
Police arrested the sixty-seven year old for threatening to commit a terrorist act.
Chief Steve Stephens, of the Vienna Police said even Canavan didn't follow through with the threats, he can still be charged with a terrorist act. "He does not need to have committed any crime, he can just make a threat, as long as its a willful threat, he can be charged under that statue and that what we chose to do at this time."
If convicted Canavan faces no less than one year in jail, or a $5,000 fine.
