As we begin this new year there are some new vaccination recommendations for children and adolescents.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics these changes include the H1N1 vaccine for everyone six months old and older and revaccination of the meningitis vaccine for children who are at a high risk of getting the disease.
Plus there is a recently new version of the HPV vaccine for girls to prevent cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine is now recommended for boys 9 to 18 years old to protect against genital warts.
Charles Whitaker III, M.D. who is a pediatrician said "the meningitis vaccine for the last couple of years has been recommended at age 11 and older. The previous meningitis vaccine was for college kids. The new recommendations are for 11 years old and older."
The new vaccination recommendations for children and adolescents has been approved by the Centers for Disease Control, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
