The Wood County Commission is expected to spend this week and much of next week working on its new fiscal year budget.
Commission president Rick Modesitt says much the same thing we've heard from other government officials recently...that, given the nation's and the area's economic woes, the budget will continue to be tight.
He adds, however, that the county continues to be careful about its spending.
"We are very conservative on our spending practices," Modesitt said. "So we are expecting certain things to occur, and we are following through on our plans. Overall, the county is in excellent financial condition; it's just that there's not a lot of new growth."
Modesitt says county revenues about the same as they were a year ago.
Once it's approved, the new county budget is set to go into effect July first.
