One person has been transported to an area hospital following Tuesday morning's accident in Parkersburg's City Park.
Parkersburg police sergeant Phil Giffen says 78-year-old Naomi Gilmore was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and then transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center.
Police say the car struck the base of the Confederate Soldier Memorial, which caused the car to flip over. Minor damage resulted to the base of the statue.
City crews are cleaning up debris. Park Avenue was temporarily blocked off near the park.
Larry Dale, Pastor of the Baptist Temple located across from City Park, says the Honda Accord went out of control on 19th street, damaged a car parked at the church, before it went across Park Avenue and land on its top in the park.
Police said the car was traveling down 19th street--it isn't known why--at a high rate of speed.
Dale and a church employee performed C.P.R. on the victim before a St. Joseph's Hospital Ambulance arrived on the scene.
