Three Wood County schools are eligible to apply for a share of the millions of dollars in federal stimulus money available to improve West Virginia schools.

Franklin Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Van Devender Middle School did not make adequate yearly progress so they are eligible to apply.

Administrators plan to apply for funding from the school improvement grants program this spring.

Since Franklin Elementary is a tier one school it may receive more funding.

Frieda Owen, Wood County Schools Assistant Superintendent said "We are looking at more technology for the students. We would like to see those students have access to laptop computers perhaps and projection units, they already have white boards then we would like to look at an extended school year for Franklin."

Owen said if the schools receive the funding, administrators are looking into using the money for professional development and technology at all three of the schools.

These changes would take place over three years.
