The Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis organization presented a check for $40,000 Thursday to the C.F. Foundation, and "Champion" child Wyatt Doyle Smith.
The money comes from 2011 BACF fund-raisers, including the annual all-star football and basketball games.
And it's nearly three times what it first raised 16 years ago.
"As the events have grown over the years, and as the community has become more aware of the need for a cure for cystic fibrosis, they have tremendously supported this cause," says Kay Grose, President of the BACF Board of Directors. "We have been delighted over the past few years to give a minimum of $40,000 each year."
The money is used for research for a cure for the genetic disease, which is the number one cause of death for adolescents.
