Lobbying for the environment.
That was the main purpose behind "environmental day" at the West Virginia Capitol Wednesday.
Organizations including the Sierra Club and the state environmental council presented discussions and displays about what they believe are threats to the mountain state's natural resources.
And among those issues...the possible impact of drilling for natural gas in the marcellus shale.
"I don't think enough legislation has been directed at protecting those water supplies," said concerned citizen Marilyn McGeorge of Kanawha County. "Once the water table is polluted, it's polluted, its polluted forever. And I think we have to address those issues."
A bill the legislature approved late last year sets limits from residences wells that can be drilled, and provides funding for additional people to inspect drilling sites.
