Providing opportunities for it's school.
Marietta High School's Marietta Alumni and Friends Foundation provides money for school that the Board of Education is unable to fund.
It's about a tradition.
Community members take it into their own hands.
"This will just help us build on that fine tradition of the long orange line, you might want to call it, of people that has maybe gone through these halls, halls of the other buildings that have been Marietta High School that have contributed to our country as well as to our local area," explains board member Grace Hubbard.
Board members say alumni and community members know Marietta Schools are a reflection of the entire community.
The foundation has already helped the High School Baseball team make their Spring Trip-- a reality.
"We established a special for that in which I solicited donations from former baseball players and friends of the baseball program," explains board member and baseball coach, Jim Thrash.
Members say donations are commonly made by those... who love their city and want to give back. They say this foundation is a way of assurance for those who donate.
"We're finding that the classes, especially the older classes have a little bit of money left over from their reunions and they're passing that into us and memorials are being made in honor of family members that have died and gone to this school in their honor," says alumni and board member, Molly Schram.
This foundation is about generating new grants, funds and ideas.
And while donations have recently gone towards educational trips and school archives the options are up to the donor.
"Sports section if you want to donate to any of the different sports, there's a fine arts section if you want to help out the choir and the band and the arts here in the building.," says Hubbard.
"We're also looking at sponsoring scholarships for anyone that's graduating and going off to college, so there's just a limitless possibilities for this money," explains Schram.
Teachers will also be able to make their needs known.
Requesting supplies that students have previously had to do without.
"Well we're hopeful that it's going to benefit a lot of areas of our school system through donations of people who support projects throughout the school system," says Thrash.
The Marietta Community Foundation has also donated helping give the Alumni and Friends Foundation a better start.
