Jack Murray, the founder of Murray Sheet Metal Company in Parkersburg, died Thursday at the age of 82.
Murray was also known for his involvement in numerous community projects-notably, the planning, fund-raising and construction of the Erickson All-Sports Facility in the 1990's.
In recent years, he also was honorary chairman of Holiday in the Park, the annual lighting display at Parkersburg City Park.
"He provided such a leadership that what was done out there was done voluntarily," said lifelong friend Dan McPherson. "A lot of the supplies, a lot of the man hours, usage of trucks and equipment he got free, because of his way of handling people. He was one tremendous guy to work with."
Services are scheduled for 3:00 Saturday afternoon at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
