Man convicted of voluntary manslaughter in wife's death.

Logan, W.Va. (AP) -- A Logan County man tried twice in the 2005 death of his wife has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

The guilty verdict against 43-year-old William Brennan the Third was returned this week.

Brennan's first trial was declared a mistrial last may when the jury failed to reach a verdict.

The victim's body was found in the trunk of a car parked on the Brennan property near Chapmanville. An autopsy revealed that Lisa Brennan died of injuries consistent with head trauma.

William Brennan was originally charged with murder, but that charge was dropped in 2006. The Logan County Prosecutor said at the time that the medical examiner's report would not support the intent needed for first-degree murder.

The defense alleges that someone else was responsible for Lisa Brennan's death.

A sentencing hearing will be set at a later date.
