Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- A state foundation is offering a free two-week supply of nicotine patches to Ohioans who sign up for a new stop-smoking program.

Along with the patches, the "Ohioquits" program offers coaching to smokers trying to kick the habit. They can receive counseling by phone, at 1-800-quit-now, or in individual or group sessions at hospitals including the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State University Medical Center and Toledo Hospital.

The Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation says smokers who take advantage of what the program offers are up to eight times more likely to quit for good.

The foundation was created by state lawmakers with Ohio's share of national tobacco settlement money.

Live by the word NOPE= Not One Puff Ever!! A firm resolve is imperetive to quitting, but so is changing your thinking about the drug. First off, remember we are addicts. Yes, we are, and we always will be. If we think, "I can't smoke anymore," as if smoking was a real treat we are now being denied, the old inner Nicodemon will seize upon that during weak moments and use it to trick us into smoking the always fatal, "just one." There is no such thing as just one cigarette. It will put you right back to smoking regulary. Keep firmly in your mind the reasons why you quit. That smoking is breathing in terrible damaging poisons, and quitting sets you free from being a slave to that behavior. You no longer have to do it! It is really a BAD thing you are breaking the chains from and becoming your own person again, finally! When those craves hit, remember they only last for a few minutes and they are NOT commands!- so try to take some nice deep breaths each time they come along.
