Second Creek, W.V. (AP) -- Seven people and 20 livestock are being treated for the rabies virus after a rabid goat was found on a Greenbrier County farm.
The goat has been euthanized, but County Sanitarian Amanda McMichael said the 20 animals have been quarantined for eight months while seven people who had contact with the goat are treated.
McMichael said officials aren't worried that the goat may have exposed the cattle to the rabies virus, but rather that whatever animal infected the goat also got into the enclosure with the other livestock.
In February, a fox in the same area also tested positive for rabies, and a nearby dog has been quarantined after presenting rabies-like symptoms.
