Morgantown, W.V. (AP) -- A Northern West Virginia man and a woman from Guyana are accused of conspiring to evade immigration laws by staging a fake marriage.

Federal Immigration Officials arrested Jonathan Charles Cobun of Morgantown and Jocelyn Carol Grenada Thursday.

The 23-year-old Cobun and the 43-year-old Grenada were indicted earlier this week on federal charges of conspiracy to commit fraud to evade immigration laws, marriage fraud and false swearing in an immigration matter.

According to the indictment, Cobun and Grenada faked their marriage so that Grenada could obtain permanent U.S. residency.

Cobun denies the charges. He told the dominion post that the couple's marriage is legitimate.

A detention hearing for Grenada and a preliminary hearing for Cobun are scheduled for Tuesday.
