Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- The Columbus Symphony says it won't open its classical season this fall, the most recent cancellation by the cash-strapped organization.

Symphony management said in a statement Wednesday that the 2008-09 Classical Concert Season won't begin in October, and at least 10 performances through early December are canceled.

Board of Trustees president Robert Trafford says contract talks with musicians this month didn't produce an agreement, and no further talks have been planned.

The symphony suspended operations in June and canceled the popular Summer Pops Series, citing a projected $3 million budget shortfall. Both sides had said that the upcoming classical season could start on time if a new contract was reached by mid-July.
