Copley, Ohio (AP) -- Kids aren't screaming yet, though some are disappointed with an Akron suburb that's giving ice cream trucks the cold shoulder.

They'll be banned from Copley Township under a new law against transient vendors that officials say was meant to keep out door-to-door salespeople.

Township Administrator Peggy Spraggins says permits for the ice cream trucks won't be renewed when they expire at the end of the month.

Nine-year-old Nicole Scout Basinski has written township trustees saying that she likes getting ice cream and the ice cream man shouldn't be outlawed.

But Trustee Dale Oanovich says banning ice cream trucks isn't a bad thing. She says it's hazardous when children run at them, plus she says the lack of driver screening is a concern.
