Check again. Banks are charging the unemployed a fee even to get the balance of the card. It may sound like pennies that they would get from one person, but multiply that by millions and it is a nice piece of change. This is a rip off of unheard magnitude

Another sign of the times! It's just ridiculous. Give me a good old fashioned paper check any day. I think people should be given an option and not forced to use the debit card. Another way of "Big Brother" telling us what to do. Wake up America!

i understand the effort to help the banks but it is through additional fees with the use of the cards that make them money charging fees each time it is used. The banks are already using your money to make money without compensating you! I suggest everyone use the one-time withdrawl to save the bucks. they are taking advantage of those who are already having a tough time!

The state also does this with child support checks, and i have heard of lots of problems with this system. Is there a Bank of American, Citibank or JP Morgan around here?

If you have to go to a Chase bank to cash them in the closest ones around here are Belpre and Marietta.

Thanks for the link, it serves as a fair warning to those who read it. I'll be taking mine to the bank and cashing it in, which should be a free transaction from what I've read in the article. But we all know that there are many people who won't do that, they'll use it as a debit card and possibly get stuck paying fees. It's a shame, and shows how those at high levels are getting paid off by the big beggar banks. May all the big bankers rot in hell.
