Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission is preparing to vote on proposed tuition increases at state schools that range from about 3 percent to more than 9 percent.

Tuition increases are on the agenda for the commission's meeting on Thursday.

West Liberty State University is seeking the largest increases. The University has proposed a 9.32 percent hike for in-state students and a 9.67 percent increase for out-of-state students.

Fairmont State University has proposed the smallest tuition hikes, 3.08 percent for in-state students and 3.03 percent for out-of-state students.

The commission says the boards at West Virginia and Marshall Universities have not yet acted on tuition hikes.
