Washington (AP) -- The government says a county in southern Ohio has one of the nation's highest cancer risks from toxic air pollution.
The Environmental Protection Agency says the risk in a part of Scioto County is 612 in 1 million. That means that if 1 million people breathed the air over their lifetimes, about 612 people would be expected to develop cancer because of their exposure to the pollution.
The study measured levels of 80 cancer-causing pollutants released by cars, factories and other sources.
The portion of Scioto County ranked seventh on the government's risk list. A part of Los Angeles was at the top with a cancer risk of 1200 in 1 million.
