JUNE
Helen Riddle
Nominated by her daughter, Phyllis Bradley.
"For well over 60 years, my mother has played the piano both at church and for the Servants Quartet. She has worked hard over the years raising four kids, canning, gardening and working at a job. She has over the last few years, become blind. This has not stopped her. She continues to play the piano at church (she cannot read music), and continues to cook and can with Dads help. She always puts others first, and even though she is blind, she will tell you how beautiful you look. Mom is pushing 80, and is more beautiful every day, her continuing dedication to her family and faith is a tribute to her life. A couple of years ago, she had to finally retire from being the piano player for the Quartet because it was becoming difficult to navigate in strange places. But, if you saw her at her church or at home, you would never know she was blind. She has 4 children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who adore and admire her. Watching my mother with her arthritic fingers, and blind eyes continue to play blessing after blessing on the piano, cook the good ole home style dinners and stand firm for her faith in God...makes me feel very humble. When my knees ache, or my back hurts, I think of my mother who never complains about the cards life has delt her, but only thanks God for all he has given her.
1. As a young girl she taught her self to play piano, but cannot read music.
2. She still cleans, cooks, goes places even though she cannot see. 3. She still sees the beauty in everything, but creates the sweetest most beautiful Christian music that anyone would want to hear, despite her arthritic fingers and blinded eyes."
MAY
Ruth Adkins
Nominated by her daughter: Tabby Morris
"She cares so much about all of her family and would put herself through so much just to help. She is a nurse and in school to be an RN, she works full time, goes to school full time and took care of her mother until she died, her sister until she died, and is now helping take care of her older brother battling cancer; for the second time. Plus she takes care of her 15 year old granddaughter, my daughter."
