A favorite Halloween decoration is leaving its mark in the city of Vienna.
Police Chief Steve Stephens says Tuesday morning the department received a handful of phone calls from citizens reporting pumpkins were thrown through their car windows.
Chief Stephens says pumpkin vandalism is common this time of year but not to this degree.
He says typically they find pumpkins smashed in the road or on sidewalks but never through car windshields.
Chief Stephens says he does not want to deter folks from decorating their homes this time of year so he's asking everyone to do their part.
"Pay close attention to your neighbors and to your property and with that hopefully we'll be able to catch someone. We're going to set up patrols in the neighborhoods and hopefully we can catch them that way as well," says Chief Stephens.
Chief Stephens is urging anyone who has any information regarding Tuesday morning's vandalism to call the Vienna Police Department at (304) 295-8563.
