Charlotte's Web, Catcher in the Rye, How to Eat Fried Worms, these are all great classic novels, but they also have something else in common. They've sparked controversy over the years, and groups tried to ban them from schools and the shelves of libraries.

And this week, the Parkersburg-Wood County Library is celebrating banned books week. The week starts Monday and goes through Sept. 28.

The American Library Association believes people should have the choice to read what people believe is right for them.

Most recently the books to spark the most controversy is the Harry Potter series. Other books include Of Mice and Men, The Chocolate War, and, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

If you'd like to participate in banned books week, all you have to do is read - the more you read the more prizes you can win!

For every banned book you read you get a ticket, at the end of September a drawing will be held for prizes at the Parkersburg and Wood County Library.
