The results of long-awaited tests of exposure to PFOA, commonly known as C-8, by employees of DuPont Washington Works are out.
It comes just months after settlement of a lawsuit against DuPont filed by some area residents. These tests just involved DuPont workers. Tests on members of the community won't happen until settlement of the lawsuit is approved, probably next month.
At a news conference Tuesday morning, company officials and medical experts said the results affirm what they've been saying all along: that PFOA causes no adverse health effects in humans.
They add, however, they found high cholesterol readings workers inside and outside its Teflon production area. Already, the findings are coming under scrutiny from attorneys for the residents who filed the original lawsuit.
Charleston Attorney Harry Deitzler claims some of the findings prove that previous studies the company conducted were flawed because they compared exposed workers to others exposed to the chemical.
