Last month, A company called Fibrox announced preliminary plans to open a plant in Washington County.
Now Fibrox officials have a tax incentive that brings them one step closer to doing so.
Last night the Warren Local School Board approved a 60% tax abatement for the proposed fibrox plant.
The School Board is hoping Fibrox will open a new facility next to Eramet on State Route 7.
Warren Schools Superintendent Tom Gibbs says they are also offering Fibrox a one to two percent additional discount for each employee hired within the Warren School District.
Gibbs says the move would save Fibrox $60-thousand a year in taxes and cost the district $11-thousand a year in revenue.
It would also give 40 people in the district a steady job.
Fibrox President Russ Craig says the tax abatement make for a very convincing argument to build the plant in Washington County versus West Virginia.
Fibrox uses an Eramet byproduct and recycles it to make their fibers. Offcials say the location next to Eramet is very convenient.
