It was the first of it's kind in Wood County, the Democratic Convention at the Donald F. Black Courthouse Annex Saturday.

About a hundred Democrats came out to elect the 80 delegates and Convention Chair who will go on to the Democratic State Convention.

Thirty-two of the delegates are men and forty-eight are women. Walt Auvil was elected Convention Chair and 15 people were approved alternates.

They will go to the State Convention in Charleston in June.

"Wood County will have a voice in picking six delegates, three men and three women to go to the National," said Walt Auvil, Wood County Democratic Party Chair.

"Wood County actually has the most voice in that because we have the largest number of delegates to the State Convention at 80 more than any other county in the first district."

Auvil said since Wood County voted so heavily for Governor Manchin they were allotted more delegates.

Auvil said no matter what, only delegates committed to the candidate who wins the primary can go to the National Convention in August.
