It's an annual information campaign of the National Weather Service office in Charleston, WV.

Severe Weather Awareness Week sees special features on weather threats and advice on how to keep safe in the face of damaging storms.

But as the week of information, drills and advice concludes, the real thing is bearing down on the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Severe thunderstorm watches and Tornado Watches have populated the central plains through the week, and the systems are now moving toward Ohio and West Virginia.

The wise viewer will have rehearsed with their family what to do in the event a severe thunderstorm is approaching. They will review where to take shelter from an approaching tornado.

The threat returns every springtime as warm moist air from the gulf coast collides with cold dry air from Canada.

But the need to review safety never goes out of date.
