I agree that something has to be done with the Ohio school systems. However, I would never dream of putting my children into any WV school. WV as a whole scores lower on all standardized tests than Ohio and many other states. The graduation rate is even dramatically lower in WV than in Ohio. Moving to better funded school districts in Ohio will be my only choice in order to make sure my kids get the best education.

Everything that Brad has said is true. When goes to the no child left behind, their are quite a few that are left behind. These classes will be entirely to big and the children will not benefit. Because the teacher teaching these classes will need a aide, will they have the money for that aide? No, the children will just not learn so it will be hard for them to move forward. It's a very sad day for washington county first it was fort frye schools now belpre and warren. I agree with the one superintendent. You only need one chief to run things and a few indians to help out.

I fortunately live in WV, but I formerly covered education for a local newspaper. Unfortunately the whole state of Ohio has problems with their educational system. The funding has been deemed unconstitutional three times. You would think they would have fixed it after the first. Unfortunately it is the students who are suffering from these serious mishaps taken by the state of Ohio. I agree with Luke. I can't grasp the concept of having six different school boards with six different superintendents, etc. Look at all the money going out the window by having to support that many superintendents and that many schools. I'm glad I'm a product of WV schools and that my children are being educated in WV. I do feel for the parents in Ohio because they have no choice but to send their children to these schools. And the school system can't continue to ask the voters to approve levies as many people just cannot afford it anymore!!!!

And people wonder why we take our children over to Parkersburg to go to school. I know alot of people that said they would never move over here because of the school system. I am originally from Pburg and just moved here recently. I love the town, but my kids will not be going to a Belpre school anytime soon.

Washington County needs to consolidate. In all the school districts making cuts, there are no administrative positiions on the list. The cuts made directly affect the students. In Marietta, over 1.5 million dollars a year is spent on administrative salaries with some jobs overlaping. Why doesn't the school board look at these positions before cutting classes and staff? We are told the enrollment is declining and cuts must be made, but the "chief" positions seem to be safe. They are the ones costing the most money, but the school board seems to forget that the purpose of schools is to educate children, not to make those with titles rich. Consolidation needs to be done NOW.

I feel the state needs to come in and look at the whole picture at Belpre. We have a superintendent drawing retirement from one school system and working for another. Seems pretty greedy to me. Also, there are positions in the Administration that could be eliminated since I haven't seen anything come out of it. I am glad I will no longer have a child going to Belpre. It is really sad we have no science labs and there the fact there are not a lot of classes to choose from. Shame on the City's Residents, shame on Ohio - for unfair school funding, and shame on several who work for the school and don't do whole lot of anything and still get paid.

Wake up Washington County. We have 6 different school boards in our county. Why ? That is 6 high paid Superintendents, 6 boards, six high schools and the list goes on. We need to start looking at consolidating. It will be cheaper in the long run. Look at WV....55 counties and 55 school boards. To me, that seems like the way to go. I usally don't agree with Brad, but on the topic of education and our children, I do.

I was very impressed with Mr.Woodburn's commits on television this morning. He is RIGHT!It is time for the voters in Washington County to step up and support their children. Soon only the basic courses will be taught in the schools. Students will not have the same educational opportunities as students in other regions of the state of Ohio. There are many students who benifit from the arts in our public schools. These are the programs that are cut FIRST! Art and music seem to suffer more than any other subjests. Frontier School District does not have any instrumental music. Their band program was cut some years ago. Now Belpre does not have a marching band, but they will have instrumental music. Will Fort Frye follow and cut their band program? I teach at Caldwell Schools where the instrumental music program was just cut. We had approximately 40 students in our marching band. Program GONE! WAKE UP VOTERS!
