Ohio State Representative Jimmy Stewart came to Marietta Thursday to give Rotary Club members an update on issues they wanted to learn more about.
One question a member asked him about was the seven day paid sick leave ballot initiative.
He said he believes Governor Ted Strickland is trying to reach a compromise between the two sides before it reaches the ballot.
He also spoke about the federal funding issued to states called Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
"Ohio for many years has enjoyed the largest surplus in the United States of these TANF dollars. We're seeing that now we're starting to spend down that surplus at a very quick pace and it looks as though our surplus is going to be gone in the next two to three years," said Rep. Jimmy Stewart, 92nd District-OH.
He said most of this surplus helps early childhood education programs and the legislature will have to make some funding decisions for these programs in the upcoming years.
