More than seven months after an extensive criminal investigation began on a former St. Marys car dealer Wednesday night, police make their arrest.

It was at the Vienna Wal-Mart where an off-duty officer spotted Brett Dils and shortly thereafter police were on the scene.

Dils was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court at 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Brett Dils and his attorney George Cosenza didn't agree with the $300,000 bond set by Wood County Magistrate Emily Bradley on three felony charges of writing bad checks.

After some consideration she dropped the bond amount to $75,000 a charge.

Within minutes Brett Dils posted his $225,000 bond.

The former fugitive from justice told the magistrate, quote, "He wasn't hard to find and he was at his house every day."

As of December 1, Pleasants County Sheriff Ted Maston says there were nine active warrants out for Dils arrest in seven different states.

The 41-year-old Vienna man has been accused of theft by deception and writing bad checks that at one time totaled almost $1,000,000.

The investigation into Dils began in May when the Pleasants County Sheriff's Department issued a warrant for his arrest concerning a bad check passed at a Georgia car dealership.

The next day Dils turned himself into Charleston authorities.

In June he was arrested in Tennessee and headed to court on worthless check allegations. Later that month a federal investigation was launched and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service joined Pleasants County authorities in finding people who dealt with Dils.

And just last month Daimler Chrysler Insurance filed a civil lawsuit against him and his dealership claiming it was bilked $146,000.

Cosenza tells WTAP-TV that his client is working to pay off his debts.
